Look In the Mirror at the Leader in You

Description:

This WebQuest is a group activity requiring the students to learn about various Leaders. The students will learn the definitions of the characteristics of a leader. In their quest, the students will learn about themselves and their leadership abilities.

Process

I wanted to select a topic that could reach all ages as well as enhance my knowledge. The students would have the opportunity to go on a journey to learn about other Leaders as well as look at their own leadership abilities. We expect our youth to become the Leaders of tomorrow. I thought this would be a great way for them to look in the mirror at themselves. I created a storyboard to give me some direction. Once my storyboard was completed, I started searching for a variety of leaders. I wanted to find recent Leaders as well as Historical Leaders that the students could relate to. Next, I researched leadership characteristics and created a chart with definitions. In defining the characteristics, I looked at myself.

This topic is relevant to me because, I am very interested in Leadership and helping others to develop their skills.

Reflections:

I am very interested in leadership. I spent a lot of time researching various Leaders and learning about their leadership characteristics. In my research, I found that leadership is a salad bowl and that it takes several qualities and characteristics to make a strong Leader. I wanted this WebQuest to be different. I wanted to empower the students and I wanted them to learn from other Leaders by reading about their successes and their failures. I wanted them to have an awareness of themselves and to look within at their own leadership abilities. In my quest to provide resources for the students, I took a look at my own leadership abilities and what changes I needed to make.

I enjoyed using zunal to create the WebQuest. I found the tool to be very easy to navigate, once you had your storyboard together. Uploading information was very seamless. My biggest frustration was spacing between paragraphs and getting kicked out of the system from time to time.
